- Practice before you hit the highway. Because your RV or tow vehicle/trailer combination is bigger than you are used to, it can take a little bit to adapt to the larger turning radius and increased acceleration time and stopping distance. It’s better to test your skills and equipment out close to home, where you can easily return and make adjustments if you need.
- Make sure your equipment is in top shape before you take to the road. RVs and trailers have some specific maintenance needs – bearings need to be greased, propane systems need to be purged, etc. Because you’ll be burning more fuel than a regular passenger vehicle, your pollution footprint will be bigger, too. Take your vehicle for service to save money and the environment.
- When you’re planning your vacation, book as many campgrounds as you can ahead of time. Make sure you’re selecting a site that matches the type of equipment that you have.
- Remember – safety first. Many people schedule hectic drives between campgrounds on their vacation. Remember, the RV experience is as much about the journey as it is the destination. Stay safe, relax, and use the time to stay out of the rat race.
