U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer wants Corning Inc. to think local when it decides where to build its second heavy duty diesel plant. Responding to the company’s announcement in November that it plans to build a new diesel facility to meet the anticipated growth in demand for its ceramic substrates and diesel-particulate filters, Schumer, D-N.Y., has written a letter to Corning CEO Wendell Weeks asking that the company build in the Southern Tier instead of overseas.
